Lord, Help Me Get One More
Galatians 6:1-10
An old hymn “Onward Christian Solders” with the line marching on to war with
the cross of Jesus going on before. Christ the loyal master leans against the foe
….” Desmond Doss a Medal of Honor recipient followed his faith to never take a
human life wounded by a sniper hit and shrapnel continued to race to the aid of
wounded men uttering a prayer each time “Lord, help Lord get one more”! 75
men lived as he lowered them to help off “Hacksaw Ridge” in the Battle of
Okinawa. Christian solders are in a war to point people to Jesus so they can begin
an eternal relationship with God. Christian Soldier is gifted to complete that
mission. Galatians 6:1-10 instructions us to use our gifts to complete this mission.
Restore each other: Galatians 6:1 IF can be translated since a brother is caught
in sin “to set the bone. Help bring back to a better place understanding that you
could be you. Restore gently or meekness which is a gift of Holy Spirit.
Bear one another’s burdens: Galatians 6:2-5 Burden is one which exceeds the
strength of a person. Do this with compassion not as an obligation. Fulfilling the
law of Christ which is LOVE. Beware and look out for self-conceit that will
hinder compassion for others. Prove yourself able to carry your own burden
without bragging. Awareness of our own sin will cause us to have compassion,
Share the good things: Galatians 6:6 We carry our burdens by sharing what we
have learned with those hurting. It can be physical, financial, and words of
encouragement. We are in a mission together. We need each other every day.
Examine our actions and motives: Galatian 6:7-8 “God is not mocked.”
drawing up nostrils in contempt. Like “that sure stinks”! We reap what seeds we
sow. Sermon on the Mount addresses those who act to garner personal praise.
Matthew 6:5-8
Seize the opportunities. Galatians 6:9-10 Hold on: Don’t relax stay engaged
even when the results of your love and compassion is rejected or misunderstood.
Focus on the last part of verse 9: “at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we
don’t give up”! This is a spiritual warfare Christian soldiers a hurting wounded
soul remain all around us. Hold on to the opportunity: Keep doing good led by
the Holy Spirit. Use the gifts given by Holy Spirit.
Our community needs to see how our commitment to God is played out in our
life. We are gifted to restore, carry others overwhelmed by life, share the good
things offered by God’s gifts. Resource to help others. Be aware that we need to
examine our motivation of why we do what we do. God has blessed the Heights
by touching lives. Keep using your gift whatever God has given you and seize the
opportunities God bring you and don’t lose heart.
